What are the common types of steel structures used in workshops?

1)Portal Frame Structure

  • Most common for workshops

  • Simple, cost-effective, and easy to build

  • Large clear spans (no columns in the middle)

  • Ideal for small to medium workshops


2)Multi-span (Multi-bay) Steel Frame

  • Multiple connected spans with intermediate columns

  • Used when the building width is large

  • More cost-effective than large single-span buildings


3)Clear Span (Column-Free) Structure

  • No internal columns at all

  • High construction cost but maximum usable space

  • Often used when machinery or cranes need full floor space.


4)Steel Truss Structure

  • Uses triangular truss systems instead of solid beams

  • Light but strong—good for large roofs or long spans

  • Can be designed for heavy roof loads (like cranes or solar panels)


5)High-Rise Steel Frame (for multi-floor workshops)

  • Steel columns and beams for vertical construction

  • Used in cities or where land is limited.

1. Loads

Roof dead load: 0.25 kN/m 2

Roof live load: 0.3 kN/m2

Wind speed or wind load: 120km/h

Anti-seismic:7 grade


2. Materials (Q235B/Q355B)

  • Steel column: H(300-750)*220*6*10mm, H250*150*6*8mm

  • Middle column: H(300-750)*220*6*10mm 

  • Wind column: H300*180*6*8mm

  • Steel beam: H(800-350)*180*6*8mm,H350*180*6*8mm, H(350-650)*180*6*8mm

  • Canopy beam: H300*180*6*8mm

  • Tie rod:  ∅114X3.0mm

  • Column bracing:  ∅20mm steel bar 

  • Horizontal bracing: ∅20mm steel bar

  • Knee-brace: L50X3.0mm

  • Clerestory: [18A channel steelmm

  • Roof purlin(Galvanized): C180*60*20*2.0mm

  • Wall purlin(Galvanized): C160*50*20*2.0mm

  • Connecting plate: 6mm~20mm steel plate 

  • Roof panel: 50mm EPS sandwich panel

  • Wall panel: 0.7mm single steel sheet

  • Slidding door : W6000*H5000mm (4 units)

  • Steel door: W1000*H2045mm (6 units)

  • Roof ventilation:∅600mm (44units)

  • Gutter: 2.0mm galvanized (201m)

  • Down pipe: ∅110 PVC with accessories (368m)

  • Trimming: 0.7mm steel sheet (1207m)


3. Welding

  • Welding should select a reasonable technical sequence to minimize welding stress and deformation.

  • Welding techniques connected between Q345 and Q345 steel will use an E50 type welding rod, and Q345 steel connected with Q235 will use an E43 type welding rod.

4. Fasteners( bolts and nuts) for jointing

High Strength bolts Class 10.9 used to connect the Steel Columns and

pressure type high strength bolts Class 10.9 used to connect the

constructional elements.


5. Derusting and painting 

Shot blasting to 2.5 and Applying Paint with the following

2 layers of primary anti-rust paint 80 microns.

1 coat of alkyd finishes paint 30-40 microns.
